Mayor of the city of Houten (home town of Bert): |
| "In assessment of
the proposal the activities of Prof. Van der Weijden as
professor in Obstetrics of Farm Animals in the Faculty
of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Utrecht, as
well as various profession-related activities, were taken
into account. Prof Van der Weijden has made a significant
contribution to the development of scientific education
and research in the field of obstetrics, perinatology
and fertility of female domestic animals, domestic farm
animals and horses. Consequently he has had great influence
on the practice of veterinary medicine in The Netherlands
and abroad. He developed surgical procedures by which
physiological functions of the mother and the unborn foetus
could be examined in vivo. There is evidence of personal
outstanding merit in and related to the profession itself
with visible effect outside the own organization. He can
be qualified as someone who has carried out work of special
value for society". It has therefore pleased
Her Majesty to bestow upon Prof Van der Weijden the honours
of Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau." |
